The Autonomous Vehicle Team (AVT) at Virginia Tech is a multidisciplinary group of highly motivated students and faculty. The goal of the team is to integrate technology and innovative ideas to build a fully autonomous ground vehicle capable of competing in the 2005 Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC).

Recently, the Autonomous Vehicle Team competed in the 13th Annual Intelligent Vehicle Competition. The team entered three vehicles Gemini, Johnny-5, and Polaris. The vehicles swept the competition winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall! The returning vehicle Gemini won top design honors for the second year in a row as well as capturing the $10,000 grand award for best overall performance. In total the team was awarded $14,500 in prize money. Check out the full results here.

In the 2004 IGVC, Gemini and Johnny-5 were the only vehicles from the United States to place in any competitive event. Johnny-5 won the $10,000 grand award as well as winning the prestigious Autonomous Challenge. Gemini won top design honors as well as third place in the Autonomous Challenge. In all, the Autonomous Vehicle Team at Virginia Tech won a total of $12,200 dollars in prize money.
